Many people skip their morning coffee because they’ve been convinced it’s bad for their health. These people believe that coffee can cause frequent urination, restlessness at night, and an addiction to caffeine. These things can happen as a result of excessive coffee. The potential benefits of drinking coffee should be carefully explored though before you quit drinking coffee altogether. This article will look at some of the health effects coffee could have on your body.
One of the immediately noticeable benefits of drinking coffee is the boost to short term memory. Coffee beans contain an ingredient that actually stimulates short-term memory. This is widely abused by students facing exams.
Studies also show that the students who drank moderate amounts of coffee scored higher on tests than those who did not. Among those over the age of 80, studies have shown that drinking coffee can lead to improved cognitive memory functions. Drinking coffee can actually lower the risks of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease too.
Coronary artery disease, or heart disease, is a severe condition researchers are linking to drinking large doses of coffee. The research shows that drinking coffee can often be associated with raised numbers of the markers within the body for inflammation. Most times, research has talked about how inflammation has a bad affect on the cardiovascular system. These larger doses of caffeine can really increase cholesterol levels, which is a major factor for having a larger risk of coronary artery disease. It was also shown that a majority of those that were affected negatively were also exposed to other things that cause heart disease, such as smoking, heavily drinking alcohol and the lack of exercise. Yet, researchers seem to think that people that drink 3 cups or less of coffee each day might actually make their heart health better, rather than make it bad. The goal is to drink coffee in moderate amounts and to reduce being exposed to things that can greatly increase your risk for coronary heart disease.
It has been shown that both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee have a little laxative effect that can prevent constipation. As a result of the laxative effect, it is speculated that coffee drinking can aid in reducing the risk of developing colon cancer. But people that drink excessive sums of coffee, also have bowels that are loose. If this is the case, moderating the amount of coffee you drink can help rectify this.
So, drinking a moderate serving of caffeine isn’t overly harmful. There are health risks involved in drinking excessive amounts of any caffeinated beverage. Be careful to monitor how much you are drinking and you’ll be worry free. Keep from making these mistakes by using some self control and moderation.
